Contaminated Carbon Filters Handling (SW 410) According to DOE – Environmental Quality (Scheduled Waste) Regulations 2005

Team Medical & Scientific Sdn. Bhd. (TMS) commits to meet all environmental rules and regulations in Malaysia.  We strive to protect our environment through sound management practices and decisions.

TMS has established and continue improving our implementation of EMT ’s (Environmental Mainstreaming Tools) inline with DOE best practices.

Please find out our TMS Environmental Policy.

TMS committed to prevent pollution by striving to minimise waste generation and resource consumption.

How Do TMS Dispose the Used Filters ?

Below are how we handle the Used Carbon Filters generated from Ducted Fume Hoods or/and air cleaner from Ducted Fume Hoods :

We are responsible to maintain and service the filtration system we installed and supplied.  Example of this filtration ecosystem are Filtration Box (Venticap and Chemtrap), Ductless Fume Hood, Ducted Fume Hood, Vented Storage Cabinet, and Ceiling Mounted Halo Air Purification System.

During preventive maintenance, we will collect the old filters and replace with the new carbon filters.   Upon reaching our premise we double confirm the saturation point of each carbon filters.  Once the carbon filters reached the saturation point (which is > 1% of the PEL of acetone, tested with calibrated PID Gas Detection Device), we will declare the carbon filters as used filters, classify as scheduled waste code SW 410.   Please see the waste card and the label as below.

According to DOE Environmental Quality (Scheduled Waste) Regulations 2005, we engage the DOE approved Waste Transporter and Waste Contractor to dispose and recycle the Carbon Filter.  Please find the steps for recycle and disposal of the carbon filters as below (information is given by Waste Contractor) :

The above procedure are under close monitor and management by the Company’s ERCMC (Environmental Regulatory Compliance Monitoring Committee) and enforcement by EPMC (Environmental Performance Monitoring Committee).

Our in-house CePSWaM (Certified Environmental Professional In Scheduled Waste Management) Competence Person is Mr. Chan Chee Weng, you can reach him at joseph@tms-lab.com.

Environmental Friendly and Sustainability are our priority.
